Purpose: To help an adult achieve functional literacy, in order to carry out every day job and life functions. An emphasis will be made on basic reading and writing skills as well as meeting self-identified goals.

Training: It is a requirement to attend a 1-hour Tutor Information Session and a 9-hour Tutor Training before you are matched with a student.

Time Commitment: Tutors are asked to make a one year commitment to meet with their student for at least 1 1/2 hours every week.

Cost: $25.00

Qualifications:

• Interested in and enjoy relating to a variety of people
• Flexible, friendly, patient and optmistic
• Meet and adhere to the BCLN Volunteer Eligibility and Code of Conduct
• Willingness to maintain confidentially
• Literate (no professional training or experience is necessary)
